Violent treatment received by the girl child at birth is considered to be the main reason for the decrease in the female birth ratio in India. In India, the sex ratio was almost normal during the phase of independence years, but gradually began to show signs of depletion thereafter. Although the sex ratio in India has gone through appreciable signs of improvement in the last 10 years, there are some states where the sex ratio is still low and a cause for concern for NGO organizations. One state that is showing a declining trend in the female population in 2011 and the cause of concern is Haryana. The sex ratio in India is the lowest in the state of Haryana and this figure represents 877 females per 1000 males.
